Share the Success State Sale

Hello to all and hope the wild ride of this winters weather is not hurting any of our members.

Remember it is never too early to begin getting your cattle ready for the up coming “Share The Success Sale”. FAT SELLS keep in mind I am talking about the cattle, as Diane is always telling me I am over ready for a sale.

On February 16th sale committee members and officers of the Arkansas Angus Association met at Big Jake’s in Van Buren to discuss the fall Arkansas Angus Associations Share The Success Sale. Members in attendance were Lawson Hembree, Steve Flickinger, Tom Jones, Murle Gilbreath, Camille Alstadt, Fred Pohlman and Tom Huls.

First item addressed was the location of our fall sale which all agreed to accept the offer of XXG Angus Ranch, Murle Gilbreath and Steve Flickinger, had made for last years sale. It was also decided that insurance for liability purposes would be paid for the rental on the XXG facility.

Dates where then discussed including changing the date from the last week-end in October. Considering that we have always used the last week-end as the date of the sale it was agreed to use that final week-end as the date of the sale. It was also discussed about moving the sale to the Saturday instead of having the sale on Sunday. It was decided by all that since Arkansas would be having a home game with (Mississippi) on Saturday it would hurt overall attendance to compete with the Ole Miss game. So October 26th was set as the date of the Share the Success Sale.

Next on the agenda we discussed sale management and auctioneer. I had been in contact with Jarvene Shackelford as we had talked to him about doing our sale last year. Since we had cancelled our sale last year, Jarvene had picked up a sale which conflicts with him doing our sale this year. Several options were discussed and the final agreement was that Camille said we could hire Cathy Moore to do the layout of the catalogue and gather together all the registration papers for the consignments. We also decided that we would do our own advertising, and decided on where and when ads would be placed. We decided we would not use a sale manager to try and keep costs down. As for auctioneers we were fortunate to hire Lakin Oakley who does the A-Lot-Sales. It was also decided that a committee of 3 Fred Pohlman, Murle Gilbreath, and Tom Jones will inspect all cattle upon arrival at the sale. If the committee finds any cattle unsuitable for sale the consignor will be asked to remove the cattle at that time. There will be no refund of consignment fees if any animal is turned away. Consignors will be responsible for footnotes; appropriate pictures may be included and will be used at the discretion when preparing the sale catalogue. All bulls must have a current BSE exam with a minimum of a body condition score 5. Complete set of rules will be accompanying the news letter.

Now for the good stuff May 31st will be opening day to start consignments with consignments running until August 1st. Other important dates start getting your cattle in shape NOW for the sale. September 22nd flyers to be sent out for all our members to distribute feel free to call if you need more flyers. September 26th you may start getting health papers and semen test done. October 1 clip your cattle for the sale all cattle must be clipped. Delivery may begin after noon on October 24th to XXG. Hay will be supplied for the sale and charged to the consignors to help in having enough hay for all animals.

Thanks and see you there.
